Successions & Probate

When an individual dies, their property passes to heirs based on state law and/or the contents of estate planning documents. These processes can be complicated, and legal counsel is often required. Intestate vs. Testate

Successions in Louisiana may be testate or intestate. Testate successions involve a will that describes the deceased person’s final wishes, while intestate successions are for people who died without a will and whose property passes according to Louisiana state law. Probate

In many cases, a deceased person’s estate must go through a process known as “probate” before any property can be distributed.
