Successions & Probate

When an individual dies, their property passes to heirs based on state law and/or the contents of estate planning documents. These processes can be complicated, and legal counsel is often required. Our firm handles successions and probate throughout Natchitoches, Many, Coushatta, Mansfield, Leesville, Colfax, and Winnfield. Whatever your situation, we can provide both legal advice and representation.

Intestate vs. Testate

Successions in Louisiana may be testate or intestate. Testate successions involve a will that describes the deceased person’s final wishes, while intestate successions are for people who died without a will and whose property passes according to Louisiana state law. Our firm can assist with either type of succession.

Probate

In many cases, a deceased person’s estate must go through a process known as “probate” before any property can be distributed. If you need to settle the estate of a deceased family member or have been named executor of the estate in a will, or trustee in a trust, our firm can help you move through the process as quickly and smoothly as possible. We can also assist individuals involved in estate-related disputes.

If you are involved in a succession or probated estate, legal counsel is recommended. Please contact our office today to schedule a consultation with our team.
